My name is Camille Fink and I'm a transportation researcher based in Los Angeles. I recently finished a Ph.D. in urban planning at UCLA. My dissertation was an ethnographic study of behavior and interactions on buses and the relevance to the design, marketing, operations, and management of transit systems. You can download a PDF of my dissertation, if you're interested in checking it out.
If it's any incentive to take a look at it, I will mention that 1) the fieldnotes are unedited (so there's some juicy profanity), 2) this is probably the only transportation dissertation that references The Simpsons, American Dad, and Big Bang Theory, and 3) it's sort of like reading a dissertation about urban planning written by David Sedaris. If you take a peek, I'd love comments and feedback anywhere along the "loved it - hated it" spectrum.
When I'm not thinking about the weird things people do on buses, I am delighted by stories about animals riding buses and trains, troubled by videos of fights on transit (although also fascinated), and entertained by pop culture references to transportation, especially transit.
